The CMA is calling for everyone in business to understand their responsibilities under competition law.

Their new ‘Cheating or Competing?’ campaign aims to educate everyone in business about which practices are illegal and urges people to come forward if they suspect a business is gaining an unfair advantage through these. The CMA understands that most people want to do the right thing, but they need to understand the law to check that they are compliant.

Howard Cartlidge, Senior Director of Cartels Enforcement, said: “The CMA is cracking down on businesses who collude to rip off customers by fixing prices, sharing out markets amongst themselves or rigging bids. Our message to them is we know cheating when we see it, even if you don’t. Pleading ignorance is no defence; it’s up to businesses to know what these unfair practices look like and avoid them.”
