POSITION: Industrial Issues Executive – Manufacturing

JOB SUMMARY

The Industrial Issues Executive will develop into the BPF’s specialist on a range of plastics industry sectors and products and the issues attached to them.

He/she will manage and develop the key forums for BPF member firms operating in several important industrial sectors. The role offers wide contact with the Plastics Industry at top level and a deep insight into the operation of UK and EU Governmental institutions.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The person will take responsibility for industrial issues in the BPF’s ‘Manufacturing Sector’ which includes Moulders & Specialist Processors, Rotational Moulding and the Automotive Forum.

He/she will also become the BPF’s representative on the central expert committee for industrial health & safety.

There is a European context to the role which may involve some overseas travel.

Key tasks will include:

Moulders & Specialist Processors Group
• Account management & maintenance of contacts within the Group
• Creation of Bi-Weekly Newsletters
• Develop a deep understanding of the moulding industry and its issues
• Make a strong contribution to the resolution of industry issues
• Assist Business Development Executive in recruitment of new members
• Other group initiatives
• Foster Excellent Relations with Group Chairman and members

Rotational Moulders Group
• Account management & maintenance of contacts within the Group
• Preparation and analysis of Benchmarking survey
• Creation of a newsletter for the Group
• Co-ordination of Group meetings
• Assist Business Development Manager in recruitment of new members
• Other group initiatives
• Foster Excellent Relations with Group Chairman and members

Automotive Forum
• Account management & maintenance of contacts within the Group
• Develop an understanding of the Automotive sector, plastics suppliers in this sector and issues
• Help develop gap analysis of plastics supply chains with the automotive sector
• Strong liaison with third party service providers to the Group such as public relations consultants
• Co-ordination of Group meetings

Industrial Health & Safety Committee
• Account management & maintenance of contacts within the Group
• Co-ordination of Committee meetings
• Co-ordination of annual IHSC Seminar
• Conduct and compile the BPF Annual Accident Survey
• Represent the Committee on the HSE’s Safety In Manufacture of PLastics (SIMPL) Committee
• Deliver the initiatives of the SIMPL Strategy

Other
• Other duties as reasonably required, it is anticipated that the role will evolve and change.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Experience traits;
• Minimum 1-year industrial experience or straight from University
• Capable of presenting both technical and business issues
• Capable of co-ordinating and managing projects to conclusion
• Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
• Good IT skills
• Previous experience within a manufacturing sector desirable

Qualification level;
• Ideally professional qualification in a business related or technical discipline (e.g. chemistry, materials science, polymers)

Personality traits;
• Positive and confident communicator
• Capable of building relationships with colleagues and member companies
• Well organised and disciplined project management skills
• Comfortable in working with people at all organisational levels
• Resourceful and flexible
• Approachable
• Able to work in a team
