The Stove Industry Alliance (SIA) was formed in 2008 to promote the benefits of wood burning stoves and biomass appliances. The SIA is a trade association of stove manufacturers, distributors and retailers, wood fuel suppliers, flue and chimney system manufacturers, glass manufacturers, test approval bodies, chimney sweeping associations and competent person training providers.  

The SIA currently has approximately 45 manufacturing members representing 75% of the domestic wood burning appliances sold in the UK. In 2019 the SIA expanded to form the SIA Retail Group and now has 63 independent showrooms enrolled as members all of which have pledged to promote the latest low carbon, low emission, Ecodesign ready appliances, and to provide first class sales, technical advice and after sales care to customers.

The SIA represents its members and the wider stove industry to government departments such as Defra and BEIS, the Scottish and Welsh government, the Greater London Authority and Northern Ireland Assembly. It is also actively engaged with a variety of key stakeholders across local authorities, universities, and academies, as well as representing the UK in CEFACD (the European stove association) and Bioenergy Europe.

The day-to-day management of the SIA is managed by the SIA Chair, Communications Manager and Technical Manager, supported by other SIA officers and the SIA executive committee.

The SIA is seeking a new independent Chair.

Job description:

The Chair of the SIA has an overview of the operation of the SIA and specifically the roles of the Communications Manager and Technical Manager. They will ensure that the communication is constructive and in the best interest of all members.

Additionally, they will from time to time be involved in reactive issues that will occur within the membership.

Some of the key attributes would be:

  • Have significant gravitas when talking to government and press alike
  • Be able to pull together stakeholders to determine a collective vision
  • Strong environmental credentials would be an advantage
  • Have organisational and directional capabilities.


The role is envisaged to be 1 day per week.

The remuneration is negotiable and commensurate with experience and industry/ consultancy rates.
